An Extension of Your Team

Leading CDL-A prep app partners with PXLTHREAD to lighten the load on internal teams and drive mobile efficiency.

Trucks driving on a road

Client Profile

To assist users as they work toward earning their Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), a product team at a nationwide trucking solutions company wanted to create a completely free CDL-A prep app. The company partnered with PXLTHREAD to develop the app quickly and efficiently, with the primary goal of helping users pursue a successful career in trucking.

Challenge

With several other major in-house projects already in the works, the product team didn’t have the internal resources to develop the app quickly. Their vision – and timeline – simply didn’t align with the workload of their colleagues.

In an effort to follow their ideal development timeline, the team sought an external company that could help them both adhere to their goal of expedited development and bring valuable expertise to the table.

Solution

Throughout the product team’s search, many companies and agencies were entertained. However, the team quickly realized that their time constraints didn’t allow for long, complicated onboarding processes and required unique resources that most companies didn’t have.

Luckily, the company had a longstanding relationship with PXLTHREAD, which stemmed from other completed projects and initiatives within the company. Per the product team’s VP of Digital Driver Expertise, since PXLTHREAD was already familiar with their network and database, had VPN access, and had a foundational understanding of the company, their partnership on the app was “a natural next step.”

“Working with PXLTHREAD… it’s a one-stop-shop. Although I worked closely with just a few key developers, it felt like a team of 20-40 people working on my project. If I had any question or concern, it was acknowledged and resolved thoughtfully and quickly”

Results

The product team crafted a “multi-level” vision for the app that would take the user from start to finish in the process of earning their CDL. The team met with PXLTHREAD and pointed out features from other driving-based apps that they liked. From there, PXLTHREAD provided immediate results by:

  • Building out all back-end app functionality, such as CDL quiz questions and answers.
  • Leveraging crucial UI and UX design and development experience.
  • Working closely with the CLUTCH team to add insight regarding app actions and elements along with general design and layout.
